March 2008 – National Surf Life Saving Championships …

Truro City swimmers representing Surf Life Saving Clubs from across the County performed well at the National Surf Life Saving. Many Truro City swimmers took their County ASA Championship form to the events with representation at St Ives(9), Portreath(1), Porthtowan(5) and Perranporth(2) travelled to Bath University for the National Open, Master and Youth Stillwater Championships.

The National Surf Life Saving Still Water Championships were split over 2 weekends in March with number of the Truro City swimmers who had competed in the Cornwall ASA competition competing. First up was the Masters and Seniors events, held over 2 days on the 22nd and 23rd March 2008, with the Youth event following on the 30th March 2008.

For many it was another seasoned campaign applying techniques and skills mastered as Nippers, however for a few it was their first time racing in Stillwater events and these competitors performed well scoring points for their respective teams and also winning a number of medals.

Many of the newcomers commented how challenging many of the events were, and how different and relaxed atmosphere at the poolside was from a normal ASA meet, something which contributed to the enjoyment of the events.
