The Carn Brea 1st Winter Meet a success for Truro City Swimmers …
The Saturday 21st January saw Carn Brea Swimming Club welcolme swimmers from around Cornwall to compete at their inaugural Winter Open Meet at Penzance Leisure Centre. For many of the attending swimmers it was a last minute chance for them to achieve their County Block qualifing times and for others it was a chance to clear out the racing cobwebs and shake off the remnant of the christmas dinner.
Even with the weather dull and over cast outside, the mood at poolside was filled with excitement as for many of the swimmers this was the first meet of the new year. For new head coach Emily Dart it was also a first chance to see many of the Junior club members race for the first time and her attendance and support was welcomed by the Junior coaches Kate Smitham and Alan Reid, in all 32 swimmers attended the event.
As the first session got under way it 9 year old Sam Norton and 11 year old Jack Rogers who led the way taking Gold in their first events, the 50m Breatstroke. As the session progressd the girls were not going to be out done as Jodie Kotenco, Jenna Smitham, Marissa Nicholls and Robyn Edwards also medalled in their respective events.
Session 2 and 3 also saw some of the senior team swimming with many of them setting down a counties warning to the watching crowd. In all the meet was hailed a great success with the club taking 27 Gold, 26 Silver, 18 Bronze and many other personal best times. For a summary of the swims see below.
